MONTHLY MEETINGS

Meeting Goals
Monthly meetings are not competitions.  The goal is to offer a place for club members to grow their skills by making and sharing images that align with the monthly theme.
Members can benefit from receiving club members' feedback or tips to elevate their photography skills.

Time and Place
The Highlands Photo Club meets the second Wednesday of each month from 3:50 - 5:30 pm MST.  Members may attend in person (Catalina II in the Clubhouse) or via Zoom.

Themes/Challenges
A theme is established for each month's photo submissions.  Workshops and outings are scheduled the month prior to provide both education and experiences in support of the forthcoming theme.

WORKSHOPS

Purpose
Workshops teach new techniques and styles or help beginner learn the basics.

Locations
Many workshops are held in-person only at the Highlands Clubhouse; others are hybrid (in-person and via Zoom) and, especially during the summer months, workshops may be Zoom only.

Subjects
Workshop subject matter is generally tied to the next month's monthly meeting theme
and may also provide insight for an upcoming outing.

OUTINGS

Day Outings
Day Outings are planned throughout the year in the greater Tucson area.  Outings are generally planned to align with the following month's meeting theme.  Outings are often scheduled so members can practice skills learned in a recent workshop.

During outings, more experienced members support others wanting assistance in learning new skills.  The Club's goal is to help participants have fun, grow their photography abilities, and develop a great sense of camaraderie.

TRIPS

The Club occasionally sponsors trips to locations outside the greater Tucson area. These trips are on average a three day, 2 night and are open to members and a family member or friend.

SOCIAL

We are a social group
Photography is so much more fun when one can share the experience with other photographers

Mission
The Highlands Photo Club aligns itself with the mission of the Highlands Homeowners Association.  We strive to create a friendly community for adults seeking an active, creatively rich, and socially connected lifestyle.

Just Getting Together
In addition to our scheduled activities, we encourage impromptu photo walks
and dinners together at the clubhouse after meetings.

Welcome Back Party
Each November, the club has its annual party to welcome back snowbirds.
This is usually a potluck and often replaces the meeting for the month. It's a great way for members to include their partners and come together to enjoy each other's company.

COMMUNITY

Our Photo Club Supports the Highlands at Dove Mountain Community
The Highlands Photo Club is proud to provide support to the Highlands at Dove Mountain community through a range of initiatives.
These include capturing HOA community events through photography, showcasing our work on the club artboards twice a year, and sponsoring the annual photo contest

Photographing Highlands Events
Members of the club are invited to participate as volunteer photographers for Highlands' events. These include HOA-sponsored events like holiday golf cart parades, community art shows, and outdoor parties. The images provided by club members are used by the HOA in its communication and marketing endeavors.

Community Art Boards
Twice a year, the club proudly showcases members' printed images on the community art boards. These art boards serve as a platform for Photo Club members to exhibit their work, to share their talent and creativity with the community and to encourage residents to consider joining the Photo Club.

Annual Highlands Photo Contest and a Reception
The Photo Club sponsors the Annual Highlands Photo Contest and a reception to celebrate the contest's opening. The contest and reception are open to all Highlands residents. Contest entries are judged by a professional photographer from the Tucson area. Residents also have the opportunity to vote for their favorite contest entries in the people's choice category.

Cover image in the Association's Highlander monthly newsletter
Photo Club members also support the HOA by providing photos for potential use as a cover image in the association's monthly newsletter, The Highlander.  An HOA representative selects the cover image from all residents' images submitted for that purpose.
